Unless a student is living in Adelaide with a parent, a blood relative, Adelaide International School will place students in Homestay accommodation. Homestay families have chosen to invite international students into their home to host the student for the duration of their study and will make you feel very welcome.

You can be assured that your Homestay family will help you settle into your new life in Adelaide. Homestay families orientate you to local surroundings and cultures while appreciating the need to support customs from your home country.

In your homestay, you will become a part of a family. You will meet new people and have the opportunity to practice your conversational English when you come home from school.

Adelaide International School’s International Student Coordinator will assist you with questions you might have about your Homestay after you arrive in Adelaide.

AIS works with a local agent to secure a comfortable and loving homestay. Residing with an Australian family is one of the best ways for international students to perfect their English Language.  AIS staff are dedicated to supporting students settle into their new residences and work with them to overcome challenges such as homesickness, adjusting to new foods and establishing good routines. Each student is allocated a wellbeing teacher who is the initial contact for parents. Our senior pastoral staff oversee other challenges that may arise from time to time and maintain contact with parents and agents. In school pastoral staff deliver the values education and are supported by guest speakers and activities. The program is planned with dedicated lessons each week devoted to meet students’ needs.

Important areas such as respectful relationships, socio-emotional learning an, cyber-safety and life skills are included. In school, every student belongs to a School House where they can compete for points in games and other activities or assist in charitable activities in support of the local community. In this way students practice and model school values and move to become the best version of themselves. Finally, every student is can self-track their wellbeing. AIS is one of a select few schools in Australia to use STEER-tracking software to assist them with healthy productive thinking so that they remain focussed on life goals set.
