Classes are back in operation for term 2. We welcome new students in our Year 11 and 12 programs. We are delighted that these classes are growing in number.
AIS continues to offer our English for Academic Purposes ELICOS course to students in the primary and middle school, SACE Preparation course to Year 10 students as well as SACE Stage 1 and 2.
I am pleased that both students and staff are comfortable with the routine of the online classes. There is no doubt that success online requires the same commitment as face-to-face learning. Those students who are dedicated to fully participating in the lessons, listen carefully to teacher input and instructions, and do set homework to the best of their ability are the ones who are getting the best outcomes. This is no different from students who can study on campus.
On another note, I thank Crystal Zhao who has been acting in the AIS Receptionist position for the last ten weeks. Crystal was generous in offering us her time but sadly is not at a stage with her family duties where she can continue in the role. Crystal has been replaced by Catherine So who has worked at AIS before, and so may be known to you. I am pleased that Catherine has become part of our AIS Team.
When will our borders open for international secondary school students?
This is the question that we are all asking!
Clearly, we want borders to open sooner than later. Unfortunately, the current position of our Commonwealth Government is that borders opening is still some time off. We are hopeful that as more and more Australians are vaccinated, and more of those citizens who are wishing to return home from overseas do so, the opening of our borders will happen before the end of this year. However, there is no commitment yet. As soon as we learn the news, I will circulate it to all our education agents and the students and their families.
Adelaide continues to be free of community transmitted COVID-19 and this is a very positive sign. As frustrating as the current situation is, we can all take comfort in the fact that Adelaide is a safe city that takes the health of its citizens very seriously and so those students who will eventually join us once the borders open, can be confident that they will be well looked after.
