Three AIS students under the leadership of their mathematics teacher Ian, had the honour to be invited to participate in the awarding activity of the South Australian Mathematics Talent Quest (SAMTQ) organized by The Mathematical Association of South Australia (MASA).
SAMTQ is a mathematics competition organized by the MASA annually. The focus of the SAMTQ is on the processes of mathematical investigation. Open to all junior secondary students, the SAMTQ aims to promote interest in mathematics and foster positive attitudes amongst students, teachers and parents.
Students need to submit a survey topic either individually or in groups. Students use STEM strategy in the survey, focusing on analyzing causes and predicting trends using mathematical model to solve the problem. All projects need to be submitted to MASA for review and award for the best project.
The competition attracted students from many of the state's top private and public schools. The project, COVID-19 Transmission Modeling, submitted by our students finally is awarded commendation.
